Painted on site in plein air, this watercolor came to life on a what felt like a spring day in late winter of 2020 just before the world changed. Maybe the quiet waiting of the water held the secrets of the turmoil to come. Each time I sit to paint this scene I recall my childhood coming to Malibu Lagoon on field trips, walking out to the beach with friends when I was home from UC Berkeley, the first time my boyfriend (now husband) and I walked the lagoon in the quiet early morning hours with coffee and now as I wander and explore the flora, fauna and landscape with my daughter and mother. If you have ever lived in Malibu you will know what a special place this is. I know this quiet piece of land and water teeming with life holds stories from throughout history.
The original was painted in plein-air on rough watercolor paper. The fine art giclee is printed locally and highlights the detail and texture of the original painting. This piece is available in alternate sizes both smaller and very large scale and can be hand-signed upon request. All Prices are for unframed prints.
